Water, Water Everywhere

13 Oct

When you fly from the US to South Africa, as I did last July, you are in the air seated in a cramped space for many hours–15 1/2 to be precise.  What is more, our flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg left two hours late because the entertainment system was not working and the technicians wanted to get it up and running for our long flight. They never fixed it, which meant that we had no entertainment, no movies, no music to pass the time in flight. We had to sleep or rely on our own ingenuity to fill those hours. Once the sun rose I hoped to gaze out the window to watch our passage over the face of the earth. I quickly discovered that our route took us over the Atlantic Ocean practically the entire way, North Atlantic, Equator, South Atlantic. There was nought to see but water and clouds. Beautiful but uninterrupted for hours.CIMG5602CIMG5603

You cannot imagine the thrill we all felt when we sighted land near the end of our journey. The coast of Africa. Namibia of the red dunes. The African adventure about to begin. To be continued…

To my blogging friends: I’m sorry that I have been absent for several months. The school year began and my daughter had a baby. A boy. The first grandchild on both sides of the family. Mother and baby are doing well. Here is Ryan.
