A Warm Bed Awaits

Well, we finally did land in Johannesburg, South Africa an hour and a half late. I had to rush to catch my flight to Cape Town, but I made it on time. I was in Africa and about two hours away from my final destination. I settled back in my seat by the window. The seat next to me was unoccupied. In the aisle seat there was a man about my age. I recognized him from the transAtlantic flight. After a bit we began talking. He had just come from his father’s funeral in Memphis, Tennessee. Now I am somewhat familiar with Memphis since my ex-husband grew up there. This man told me that he now lived in Cape Town. It was a long story about how he ended up living halfway across the world and in the southern hemisphere which I won’t repeat here. We shared some stories about Memphis and St. Louis, where I live. He told me that one of his best college friends had transferred to another university in St. Louis. I went to college in St. Louis. His friend had been involved in the music field. I have spent my life in music. So I asked him what his friend’s name was…….and he told me. BAM! I said, “That is my ex-husband.” Whoa! That is far out to be sitting and talking with your ex-husband’s college friend on a flight halfway around the world. This gentleman told me that the best part of his trip back to the States was this final leg when we met and chatted. IT’S A SMALL WORLD!

We arrived in Cape Town at 10:30 P.M. Late, after almost an entire day of travel. My airport transfer was waiting for me and I was happily surprised at the lovely, comfortable room that awaited me at Welgelegen Boutique Hotel. There I found my first “bush baby”, a hot water bottle enclosed in a terry cloth cover. Placed under the bed covers it warms the bed, so that you are cozy the minute you lie down. Good night!
